TIVIDALE
FOOTBALL CLUB
TIVIDALE F.C........THE
HISTORY
Tividale
F.C. was originally founded as a the senior
branch of Tividale Hall Youth Club F.C, playing
in the Handsworth and District League from
1953-1968. Tividale F.C. entered the senior
league from 1956-1960. after two years without
league football, they joined the Warwickshire
& West Midlands Alliance. having four
highly successful seasons until 1966, they
joined the newly formed West Midlands (Regional)
League, Division One.
In 1973
they won the Division 1 League and League
Cup Double gaining promotion into the Premier
Division. 1974 saw Tividale move to their
current ground in Packwood Road, naming it
‘The Beeches’, after the British
Waterways Official who granted the lease to
the club.
The early
years in the Premier Division. were amongst
the most successful in the clubs history.
In 1975-76 enjoying a superb F.A. Cup run
reaching the 4th round only to lose 3-2 at
A.P. Leamington. In 1977 they won the Premier
division League Cup beating Alvechurch 1-0,
and in the same season they won the Wednesbury
Charity Cup.
During
the 1980’s the clubs fortunes waned.
Despite finishing runners-up in the Walsall
Senior Cup in 1984 and finishing 6th in the
Premier Division in 1985. Unfortunately a
run of poor seasons followed. In 1991 a League
ruling that Premier clubs should have floodlighting,
and the club unable to afford them, saw the
club relegated to Division One. Due to these
events, in the close season of 1991 the Manager
and several players left the club. After four
months the club brought back Terry Jones who
had managed the club in the 70’s. In
1992 he guided Tividale to 3rd place in Division
One, and the floodlights were erected at the
end of that season. In 1993 Tividale finished
Division One runners up and gained promotion
back into the Premier, unfortunately this
was also the year that the Midland Alliance
was formed, and so in reality we were back
to were we started.
Since
then there has been giant strides made on
and off the pitch, with the 2001/2002 season
proving to be one of Tividale’s most
successful for a long time. Runner’s
up in both the West Midland Regional League
Premier Division to Westfields and the Walsall
Senior Cup to Bolehall Swifts after an epic
4-4 draw and losing on penalties. The 2002/2003
season again saw Tividale reach the final
of the Walsall Senior Cup final, but this
time they were successful beating Doc Marten
side Rocester 1-0 to lift the trophy. In the
2003/2004 season Tividale again reached the
Walsall Senior Cup final for the third successive
time, but were beaten 3-1 by Sutton Coldfield
Town from the Doc Marten League. Off the pitch
they have built new changing rooms, boardroom,
and completely refurbished the Social Club,
and the work doesn’t stop there. Even
now the work is ongoing, with the aim now
is to get the ground up to Doc Martens standard
with hard standing now all around the ground
and a 300 seater stand in place.
